
GCC Softball sweeps Mesa on the road to bring their winning streak to 4 games.
In game one, the Gauchos won 11-7. Freshman Shayla Munoz started in the circle for the Gauchos and threw 2.1 innings and only allowed 4 hits against the Thunderbirds with 4 strikeouts. Freshman Chloe Saiz came in the middle of the third inning to pitch 1.1 total innings. Sophomore Jena Petersen closed out the game in the circle to earn herself her fifth win. Jena pitched 3.1 innings and only allowed 4 hits against the Thunderbirds. The Gauchos lineup stayed consistent from top to bottom. Freshman Taylor James lead off the Gauchos lineup and went 3 for 5 at the plate. Jena Petersen batted second and went 1 for 2 with 2 RBIs, scored twice and had 2 walks. Sophomore's Isabel Cienfuegos, Veronica Eddy and Freshman Brooklynn Wishart hit in the middle of the lineup for the Gauchos and came out strong, all going 2 for 4 at the plate. Isabel scored twice, had an RBI and was hit by a pitch. Veronica had 4 RBIs with a double and a walk. Brooklynn scored twice, had an RBI, walked once, hit a triple and had 2 stolen bases. Freshman Hailey Chandler rounded out the lineup and lead the Gauchos at the plate by going 4 for 4 with an RBI and scoring twice.
In game two, the Gauchos won 13-4 in 5 innings. Freshman Destiny Rubalcava started in the circle for the Gauchos and threw 3 innings earning her second win. Destiny only allowed 5 hits against the Thunderbirds. Freshman Priscilla Armendariz entered the circle in the 4th inning and shut down the Thunderbirds. Priscilla pitched 2 innings, only allowed 1 hit and struckout 3 of the Thunderbird batters. The Gauchos came out strong in the first inning, scoring 3 runs, followed by 8 runs in the second and 2 runs in the fourth. The Gauchos lineup once again was consistent from top to bottom. Freshman Taylor James leadoff for the Gauchos and went 3 for 3 with 3 RBIs, scored three times, with a double and walked. Sophomore's Jena Petersen and Veronica Eddy both went 2 for 3 at the plate and had 2 RBIs each. Jena also scored twice and had a triple. Veronica scored once and had a sacrifice fly ball. Sophomore Grace Madril and Freshman's Chloe Saiz and Hailey Martinez all went 1 for 2 at the plate. Sophomore Marissa Quihuis and Freshman Anjolina McNeace both had timely pinch hits for the Gauchos. Marissa had a double with an RBI. Freshman Hailey Chandler rounded out the Gauchos lineup once again and went 3 for 4 at the plate scoring three times with 2 stolen bases.
