  • Results from the PVCC Cody McBride Outdoor Meet

    Brister sets Program 400m record at the PVCC Cody McBride Outdoor meet opener  Paradise Valley, AZ. -- Dominick Brister of the GCC Gaucho Men’s Track and Field team set a new  program 400m record set in 2009 by Dennis Givens of 47.92seconds) with a time of 47.36 seconds. He also led the men’s 4x100m relay team to victory with a great anchor leg. Brister took the baton in 3rd place then proceeded to run down two teams in order to finish in 1st place at the Cody McBride Invitational on Saturday (March 16). In addition, Tyrik Jones took two second place finishes in both the 100m and 200m respectively. The next meet for the GCC Gaucho Men’s Track and Field team will be the Willie Williams Classic on the Campus of the University of Arizona on Friday and Saturday March, 22nd and 23rd.
  • GCC Men's and Women's Team compete at NJCAA Indoor National Championships

    Gauchos  complete the first part of their season at NJCAA Indoor National Championships with 3 All-American Finishes GAINESVILLE, Florida – 2 Gauchos earned All-America honors to wrap up indoor action at the NJCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Gainesville, Florida at the Alachua Sports and Event Center last Saturday.  Second year student-athlete Leila Barmore captured a 2nd place finish in the Triple Jump and taking home All American honors in that event. The women’s team closed out the meet placing 25th in the Nation.  On the men’s side, second year student-athlete Dominick Brister took 5th place in the 60m dash and then followed that up with a 2nd place in the 200m dash. Those finishes earning him respectfully 2 All-America honors. Our men’s team finished in 17th place to complete the weekend.  An exciting time and opportunity to showcase some of our GCC Track and Field athletes at the highest level.   • Congratulations to Four GCC Men's Track and Field Team Members Qualifying for NJCAA Indoor National Track and Field Championships!

    Congratulations to our 4 Men competing at the 2024 Men’s and Women’s NJCAA Indoor National Track and Field Championship in Gainesville, FL Congratulations, all of your hard work. This has lead you to a great opportunity. The Gaucho Men’s Track and Field team is sending 4 Individuals to compete at the 2024 NJCAA National Indoor Meet inside the Alachua County Sports and Event Center in Gainesville, Florida on March the 1st & 2nd. Returning from last year with a 2023 Indoor D1 NJCAA National 3rd place finish is Dominick Brister. He is currently ranked 6th and 5th in both the 60m and 200m in the NJCAA. He will be competing in both events for the Gauchos. Secondly, is Josiah Parker. He is a first time National Qualifier in the Weight Throw and will be competing in that event. In only his second year competing in this event Josiah has thrown almost 4ft further than he did a year ago. He is ranked 15th in NJCAA. Our third and fourth qualifiers are Cooper Cruzan in the Pole Vault and John Ojeda in the 400m and 200m. Both gentlemen have shown exceptional performances and have represented our College very well. This past fall semester each one of these individuals received a 3.0 GPA our higher. In addition, they have rose to the occasion as some of the best recognized T&F athletes indoor for NJCAA 2024! We are looking to have great representation, performances and personal best/s at this National Championship competition. Now it’s their turn to see how they stack up amongst the best in the NJCAA.   • Gaucho Results at NAU Indoor Track and Field

    Final regular season Indoor Track and Field meet was hosted by NAU On Friday February, 16th NAU hosted the “NAU Tune Up Meet”. This was a great opportunity for our teams to run in an indoor facility, before some of our Gaucho’s head to D1 NJCAA Indoor Nationals in Gainesville, Florida next week. The Gauchos have qualified 4 men and 8 women for the National Competition. Highlights from last Friday’s meet was 2nd year men’s Gaucho Dominick Brister. His 1st place finish in the 60m gave him 2x NAU Tune Up champion in that event. His clocking of 6.65sec@ places him 6th in NJCAA. However, he did not stop there. Brister then ran to another 1st place finish in the 200m with an indoor time of 20.99sec. This time has him ranked 4th in the Nation. Other men showed off their talents with some personal best performances to finalize their 2024 Indoor season. The Gaucho women had great Indoor performances as well. Second year Gaucho Suraia Amer sprinted her way into the finals of the 60m dash with a time of 7.80seconds@. She followed her preliminary time with a 6th place finish in the time of 7.84seconds@. Lauren Allard raised the bar in the Pole Vault raising her personal best clearance of 2.96m to now 3.10m. The women’s team definitely stepped into the occasion on Friday with a lot of confidence heading into the Outdoor season in March.     Track and Field highlighted the day at the Gaucho Indoor The Glendale Community College track and field teams brought the crowd to their feet all around Matt O. Hanhila Field Stadium during the Gaucho Indoor on February 10, 2024. Starting it off in the men's 300m final, two Gaucho’s Dominick Brister and John Ojeda led the way finishing first and second. Brister ran away as the winner with a season-best time of 33.83, while Ojeda posted a time of 35.59 for second. It was Bristers first time running a competitive 300m. Weight ring specialist Josiah Parker finished 2nd with a consistent toss of 15.58m. Parker is No. 2 all-time in Gaucho history. Cooper Cruzan sets a personal best in the Pole Vault with a clearance of 4.09m just narrowly missing the NJCAA Indoor National Championship height on his 3rd attempt at 4.24m. On the women's side, it was even more electric. Suraia Amer clocked in at 7.94 for a third place finish in the 60m, while running to a first place finish in the 200m with a PB 24.98. This puts Amer .08 away from qualifying for Indoor Nationals in the 200m. Kaelyn Giarrusso wins the High Jump with a jump of 1.67m but the winner of it all was Gaucho Hannah Hurley taking third place 1.62m. Her third place clearance of 1.62m qualified her to NJCAA Indoor Nationals. Closing with Leila Barmore and her first place finish in the Triple Jump 12.12m. Her first place “step, hop and jump” catapulted her to the No.2 spot in the Nation for the NJCAA Indoor Track and Field. This meet at home showcased several other Gauchos with top performances all around. These Track and Field teams are learning to appreciate the sport while showing exceptional talent and showmanship for each other in many events. Some Gauchos will be closing out their Indoor season at Northern Arizona University on Friday February, 16th 2024 inside the Walkup Skydome.   • Gaucho Results from the CAC Indoor Meet

    First Timers in the Pentathlon showed Levels in a Double Meet weekend Mesa Multi’s Invitational The Gaucho Woman’s Track and Field team, led by 2nd year NJCAA All-American Leila Barmore, premiered with a successful day in the Pentathlon on Thursday afternoon at Mesa Community College. Barmore, along with 2nd year teammate Angelina Thiel and 1st year teammate Kaelyn Giarrusso showcased their Multi-Event skills for the first time ever in the event. MCC hosted as they got the opportunity to display their hurdles, jumps, throws and distance running all in one day! "It was awesome to see our Ladies go out there and just compete!” said Head Coach Brad Fields. “It was all of their first times ever doing the Pent. To be able to give the Top 2&3 Women in Division 1 NJCAA a run for their money (up until the last event) proves they have the goods! Everything for them is going to fall into place as long as we stay patient, steady and consistent with supporting one another.” The Gauchos did just that taking home a 3rd, 8th and 11th place finishes. “You have to rank amongst the Top 19 in this event in order to compete at Indoor NJCAA Nationals. We have 3 ladies who are definitely right there!” Says, Coach Fields. “These ladies did a great job and stayed mostly engaged throughout the entire competition.” No North Rain and snow kept some of our other Track and Field members from traveling up North to compete at the Ron Mann Indoor Invitational in Flagstaff, Arizona at Northern Arizona University. However, those individuals were still able to compete with their fellow Gaucho Team-members at Central Arizona College in Coolidge, Arizona this past Saturday. Personal Best Day in Distance On Saturday at the CAC meet, Nicole Novara made a impressive 14 second improvement in her 1k distance to take 1st place with a 3:09.81. This time qualifies her to compete in the D1 NJCAA Indoor National T&F Championship next month. While on the men’s side Heri Sinawivi shaved a second off his 1k and brought home a 4th place finish with a new PB time of 2:48.27. Big Jumps Oyindamola Adetutu stayed consistent and jumped her way to a 3rd place finish in the Triple Jump. Another 1st year jumper Hannah Hurley was literally a heel away from clearing the Indoor NJCAA National qualifying (High Jump) height of 2.92m. Her 1.57m clearance was good for a first place tie in the event. Leila Barmore rested a day from competition and returned on Saturday only to place 1st in the Long Jump to posted a solid PB mark of 5.77m of her own. Ready, set Go 2nd year sprinter Suraia Amer continued her strong start to 2024, taking 2nd place in the 60m with a time of 7.95 seconds. Meanwhile, Dominick Brister solidified his second D1 NJCAA Indoor T&F event in the 60m dash with a first place finish and a time of 6.79 seconds. He then turned right around and ran to a 200m first place as well (21.17 seconds).     Gauchos Find Success at the Paradise Valley Community College Indoor Invite Glendale Community College Track and Field had another outstanding day at the Paradise Valley Indoor Invite on Saturday, Jan. 27th with some top finishes and personal best marks in what was a season-debut for a few of Gauchos athletes. "We had a solid day all around," Assistant Pole Vault Coach, Teresa Lowe said. "I liked how our athletes had a consistent approach to competition by staying patient and engaged during competition." Josiah Parker placed third in the weight throw with a (Personal Best) distance of 15.48m qualifying him for NJCAA Indoor T&F Nationals in the event. Alexandra Carey who tied for ninth place overall in the Pole Vault, but won the collegiate division with another (Personal Best) clearing height of 3.11m. Distance runner and 2023, D2 National Cross Country Qualifier Nicole Novara opened up her season with personal best marks in both the Mile 5:44.71min. and 1000m 3:23.55min. Suraia Amer improved on both of her personal best times in both the 60m 7.89sec and 200m 25.36sec. Pole Vaulter Cooper Cruzan laid out another (Personal Best) vault of 4.09m bringing him closer to the NJCAA Indoor National T&F qualifying height of 4.24m. Sophomore athlete and 2023 Indoor 200m All-American Dominick Brister had a career-opening day, placing 1st in the 200m dash with a time of 21.03. This solidified Mr. Brister with a NJCAA Indoor National T&F qualifying time. The Gauchos will be preparing for competition in several different venues this week. Thursday, Feb. 1st, Angelina Thiel, Kaelyn Giarrusso and Leila Barmore will be competing in Pentathlon at the Mesa Multi Indoor event at Mesa Community College. Friday (February 2nd) a few individuals will be settling in for competition at the Ron Man Classic at Northern Arizona in Flagstaff, AZ. Saturday, February 3rd the Gauchos will be in attendance at the CAC Indoor Invite. This meet will take place on the Campus of Central Arizona College in Coolidge, AZ.
  • GCC Track and Field results from Jim Mielke Invitational

    2024 Track & Field Gaucho Results from the Jim Mielke Invitational in Tucson, Arizona Several Glendale Community Colleges Track and Field athletes made their season debuts wearing the Red and Black, on Saturday at the Jim Mielke Invitational in Tucson, Arizona. The meet was hosted by Pima Community College. The Gauchos had great representation and top performances all around the arena.  Four, 1st year Gaucho women made their debuts at the Jim Mielke Invitational in Tucson, Arizona.  Pole Vaulters Lauren Allard, Celisa Scarborough and Alexandra Carey all tied for 2nd place and meeting the NJCAA Indoor National Qualifying mark of 2.96m (9’7”).  Kaelyn Giarrusso, a jumper/hurdler, was the fourth national qualifer in her first collegiate meet. Kaelyn finished with a 3rd place finish in the High Jump, clearing a height of 5’3”. The clearance qualified her for NJCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championship meet.  Leila Barmore in her second year at GCC, had an outstanding debut as she finished second in the Long Jump with a personal best mark of 18’02.50” qualifying her for NJCAA Indoor Track and Field National Championship meet. Leila also took 2 additional first place finishes, with one being another personal best mark in the 60m hurdles with a qualifying  time of 9.03 seconds and a 5’5” clearance in the High Jump . This was also qualified her for NJCAA Indoor Track and Field Nationals..  On the men's side, Josiah Parker, a second year Gaucho student-athlete, was able to release a personal best performance mark of 15.18m (49-09.75ft). This gave him his first collegiate 1st place finish in the weight throw.  Others with opening season performances were Suraia Amer, who participated in two indoor personal best times in the 60m 2nd place finish (7.96) and 2nd place in the 200m (25.49).  First year women’s jumper, Oyindamola Adetutu, took 3rd place in the Triple Jump with a jump of 10.95 (35-11.25ft). Second year men’s sprinter, John Ojeda, took second place in the men’s 600m (1:25.05)  and first year sprinter, Kyler McQueen, placed 3rd. In addition, Pole Vaulter, Cooper Cruzan, had a 3rd place finish and a personal best height of 4.15m (13’7.25”).  Meet results: https://live.athletic.net/meets/29729 This week Saturday, January the 27th the Gauchos will have 25 total men and women competing at the Paradise Valley Indoor Invitational Track & Field meet at Paradise Valley Community College in Phoenix, Arizona.
