MESA, Ariz. – A goal in the final three minutes of the match from Hubert Muka rescued a point for Glendale Community College on Saturday night, drawing the Gauchos level with Mesa Community College in a 2-2 tie. Glendale continues its unbeaten start to the year at 2-0-1.
Despite peppering Mesa with 35 shots in the match, Glendale had to rally twice to earn the tie with the Thunderbirds. Down 1-0 at the half after allowing in a goal in the 22nd minute, Glendale knotted the score at 1-1 in the 52nd minute with a shot from Pablo Morquecho that caromed off a pack of Mesa defenders and in.
That tied score was short-lived, with Mesa pulling ahead again just past the hour mark. The 2-1 lead for the home side nearly held up, but Muka was in position to capitalize and punch in a shot in the 87th minute from close range after an initial shot by Kaedon Skawski was bobbled by the Mesa keeper.
Jordan Yesenski finished with 10 shots on the night, while Logan Henley added another five. Eli Anderson had five saves in goal.
Glendale heads to Tucson on Tuesday night, taking on Pima Community College at 8 p.m.
