Coach Perry is from Woodinville, Washington. He grew up playing soccer in the Pacific Northwest. His playing career took him to Woodinville High School, Bellevue Community College, and Central Washington University, followed by five seasons with the Yakima Reds of the USISL. He was the team captain of the Yakima Reds all five seasons from 1995 through 1999 before he took over as head coach in 2000. He graduated from Central Washington University with a BA in Education and a Masters Degree in Educational Leadership from Northern Arizona University. He has an Advanced National Coaching License through the United Soccer Coaches Association.
At the USISL level, Coach Perry guided the Yakima Reds to the Northwest Region Championship and to their first-ever appearance in the National Championships in Saginaw, Michigan. Several of the players on his Yakima Reds team moved on to the MLS with the Colorado Rapids and the Portland Timbers. The Reds were recognized nationally as the Organization of the Year for the PDL in 2000 under Coach Perry.
At Mesa Community College, his men’s team finished in second place in the ACCAC and clinched a semi-final berth in the conference tournament in his lone season with the Thunderbirds.
At the club level, Coach Perry has been a Director of Coaching at Arizona Arsenal for over 20 years. He has coached all levels and platforms of boys and girls teams. He is one of three coaches in club history to win state championships on the girls and boys side and advance them to the Far West Regionals. He has worked as a college liaison with the club and has a solid reputation for moving players into the college ranks.
At the high school level, Coach Perry has a career record of 510-242-37 over the last 33 years on the boys and girls side. He was named the Arizona Coach of the Year in 2004 and has been the regional and league COY 22 times. His teams have advanced to the state quarterfinals 17 times, state semifinals eight times and to the state finals four times. His teams hold school records for wins in a season at both schools he has coached in Arizona including back-to-back 20-win seasons at Arizona College Prep in 2023 and 2024 and including state titles at Gilbert High School in 2004 and 2017. ACP also has been recognized by the United Soccer Coaches Association for All-Academic teams the last three years and had two Academic All-Americans in 2023 and 2024. He has coached two Arizona Players of the Year in 2004 and 2017, including the Gatorade Player of the Year in 2017.
Coach Perry has been married 21 years to his wife. Kaytie. They have two children, Madelyn and John, and reside in Chandler, Arizona.
